Cross-border ecommerce in Euro hits new record high

Exciting news! Cross-border ecommerce in Europe has hit a new record high, with online stores achieving an incredible turnover of 105.5 billion euros across borders – that’s a whopping increase of 5.5 percent from the previous year! In fact, cross-border sales have been steadily growing over time and reached an impressive value of 179.4 billion euros in total for this year alone (a growth rate of 4.8 percent). These amazing figures were revealed by the „Top 500 Cross-Border Retail Europe“ report from Cross-border Commerce Europe. Germany continues to lead as the biggest European cross-border market with sales worth 34 billion euros last year (an increase compared to last year), while UK saw a decrease in its cross-border sales by four percent amounting to only 28 billion Euros due largely because many retailers dropped out but overall it was still strong performance given current circumstances. Let’s keep up this momentum and continue breaking records together!

Wow, the top 500 European cross-border sellers have generated a whopping €62.2 billion! Even though there were fewer multichannel retailers this year, brand manufacturers are on the rise and saw an impressive growth of 50 percent in 2021 alone. Last year also showed promising results, with an increase of 8.3 percent. Marketplaces are doing great too as their number increased from 42 to now having a total of49 marketplaces that together earned a turnover worth €24.7 billion – which is amazing considering it’s up by22% compared to last year! The fashion industry seems to be leading the way when it comes to cross-border sales, followed closely by home, garden and DIY products; both categories combined make up almost half (39%)of all sales made across borders-how exciting!
